About the rates. Example rates were collected October 7, 2026: the national average savings rate of 0.37% (FDIC data, September 2026), a 3.50% APY from a major online bank's high-yield savings account, and top nationwide CD rates of 4.75% (1 year) and 5.00% (5 years). Savings rates can change at any time; a CD's rate is locked for its term. Check the bank's current rate before opening an account.

By default, interest is figured from the APY and credited monthly, with deposits added at the end of each month. Change this under Advanced settings. Taxes on interest and inflation are not included. Savings accounts and CDs at FDIC-insured banks are insured up to $250,000 per depositor, per bank, per ownership category. This is an educational tool, not financial advice. Read the savings FAQ.
